A brand film should leave an impression
What do you want people to think and feel about your company after watching? That question should guide a brand film from the beginning. The film needs to communicate who you are and what you do while leaving an impression that fits the brand you are building.
Think of your brand as your company's reputation: the picture people form through their experiences with you. A video is one part of that experience. Its story, people, images, pacing and music all contribute to how someone sees the business.
Putting someone on camera to explain the company can provide useful information. But information alone may leave the viewer with very little feeling for who you are. Brand film production gives deliberate attention to both the message and the experience of watching it.
Occulus Films is a veteran-owned, family-run video production company based in Phoenix, founded in 2014. We develop the creative approach around your company, your audience and the impression you want to leave.
What counts as a brand film?
Brand film is a broad term. It might tell the founding story of a business, introduce the people behind it or take a more creative, narrative approach to what the company stands for. It can also overlap with a commercial or product campaign.
Some projects are deliberately cinematic and carefully scripted. Others use a founder's interview and documentary-style footage to tell a story more directly. Both approaches can communicate a brand; the choice depends on how you want the company to be portrayed.
There is no single format that every business should follow. The useful question is whether the creative choices help your audience understand and connect with the company.
Praesidus Ranger: an adventurous identity
The Praesidus Ranger watch campaign is a product ad with a strong branding purpose. The aim was to associate the brand and product with a kind of person: someone adventurous, drawn to a challenge and willing to overcome it.
That gives the viewer more than product information. It offers an identity they may recognize in themselves or want to be part of. The creative approach connected the watch to that persona.
Praesidus supplied a lookbook and rough script. We helped develop the direction into a complete production, including creative development, planning, filming and post-production. The campaign delivered six video versions, edited photography and raw assets for ongoing use.

Other approaches in our portfolio
Schaefer Farms: a documentary approach
The Schaefer Farms mini-documentary for Bayer Seminis's Roots series uses interviews to explore the legacy, hard work and technology behind the operation. Filmed in the field and warehouse, it puts real people and their work at the center of the story.

Bayer Seminis: Seasoned Vegetables
We collaborated with Sapphire Agency on a campaign that presented the age of proven Seminis varieties as evidence of reliability, performance and grower trust. The work included a hero film and product ads for different regions.

Praesidus Willys MB: a product connected to history
The Willys MB commercial connects a modern watch to material recovered from actual WWII Willys MB vehicles. This is a separate Praesidus project from Ranger, using miniature virtual production for a History Channel placement.

How we find the story
Understand the impression you want to create
Discovery starts with how you want people to feel about your company. What matters to you as a business? How do you want to be known? What do you want your legacy to be?
Those answers help us decide which story, people and creative choices belong in the film. They also give us a way to evaluate an idea before committing to the production it would require.
Find the heart of the story
Our Muse storytelling framework is useful for finding the person at the heart of a story: someone who can represent it powerfully and connect with the impression the brand wants to create.
The person or persona should fit the story and the way you want viewers to relate to the company. That work informs the creative direction. The depth of discovery and story development is agreed for the project.
Choose the style around your company
The approach should vary from client to client. An adventurous watch brand may suit a different visual world from a company whose audience needs to feel confidence in its expertise.
As a hypothetical example, a medical company with doctors at the center of its work might feature those doctors and use a precise, clinical visual approach to communicate expertise and confidence. That is an illustration of how we would think about the brief, not a claim about a particular past project.
For your business, we consider how you want to be portrayed and what kind of story can communicate that. The result might use real employees, a founder, scripted scenes or actors. The creative choice and the production budget need to support each other.
A founder speaking on camera with documentary-style supporting footage can be a strong fit for one company. A scripted campaign with casting, wardrobe and carefully selected locations may be right for another. We develop the direction around the actual assignment.
From the creative direction to the finished film
Plan the production the idea needs
Once the direction is clear, it has to become a workable plan. An interview-led story needs the right person and supporting footage. A more constructed ad may require a script, actors, wardrobe, scouting and a different level of coordination.
The Ranger portfolio shows how planning can extend into practical effects, location logistics and product photography. Those requirements came from the concept; they are not assumed to be necessary for every brand film.
Capture the images that carry the impression
Production follows the story and the intended portrayal of the brand. The people, locations and actions on screen should help communicate the identity you want the viewer to understand.
We plan supporting footage around the message. In a documentary-style piece, that can help show what a founder means. In a scripted campaign, it can establish the persona and world the brand wants to be associated with.
Bring the film together in post-production
The edit shapes how the audience experiences the story. Pacing, picture, sound and music work together to communicate information and leave an emotional impression.
We have access to a substantial royalty-free music library and can also commission original music for a project. Music selection and the licensing needed for your intended use are agreed as part of the scope.
Review and refine
We typically provide three revisions for client projects, with the exact revision scope agreed for the assignment. The early creative work helps establish the direction before the finished edit is reviewed.
How long should a brand film be?
A brand film might run from 30 seconds to two or three minutes, and some stories can go longer. We generally lean toward the shorter end, often around two minutes or less.
The important thing is engagement. A film should be no longer than it needs to be to do its job. Giving a video more time does not automatically give the story more impact.
We scope the finished film and any additional versions around their intended uses. Short cuts, vertical formats, photography and raw footage can be discussed where needed; there is no automatic deliverable package for every brand project.
What brand film production costs
Brand film projects start around $5,000, with documentary-style work closer to that starting range. The cost varies significantly with the production approach and scope.
A more elaborate ad-style production can range from approximately $10,000 to $50,000 or higher. Actors, scripting, wardrobe, location scouting and the depth of the production can all change the budget. That is a broad range for planning, not a fixed quote or an upper limit.
Shooting batches of content can sometimes reduce the cost per individual video by sharing production work. The actual saving depends on what can be captured together and how much separate development and editing each piece needs.
We agree on timing after defining the creative approach and production requirements. An interview-led film and a scripted campaign with casting and multiple locations need different schedules.
